Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Tarawa, but mom calls me Tara for short. I'm just a baby, so there isn't much to tell about me yet, but here goes I have beautiful blue eyes and the most amazing thing called a tail!! Momma said it really is pretty, and just fits my personality. Whatever that is. I have a pure white coat and love to play with my bigger fur siblings. I try not to scare them with my jumps and growls, but sometimes momma has to remind me that I have to be gentle with them. They are old after all. Momma said there is a creature out there called a cat, but I don't know what they are. Momma said I should be fine with one, since I am still a baby ... (Read More)and can learn they are not toys. A baby?!! Really mom! I am learning to go potty outside and walk on a leash. I don't like being in a crate, but mom said I need to learn to be patient in one. Since I can't hear, mom has started teaching me hand signals I love my skin family, but I heard from 2 of my siblings that there is a thing called a 'furever' family? I don't know what that is yet, but it sounds great. Will you teach me what that is? See my bio here: http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2715 (Less)

Hi, my name is Adnan! I just met my foster family. They say I am the sweetest dog they have ever met. I am very submissive and get along with the other dogs in the house. I had a very bad broken leg when I was save by Legacy Boxer Rescue and it was unfortunately unable to be saved. I had it amputated on 6/26/2014, so I am what my foster mom calls a tripod. I need to heal from this surgery and get neutered, so I will be ready to start meeting families sometime in August. Please check back and my foster mom will update my information as I get healthy. Animal ID: 14362Norman (male)

Boxer    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

'My name is Norman, but sometimes my foster parents call me ''Norm!'' The first few days they called me ''Norman No'', but now that I am settled in and I understand things better, I don't hear that name so much. They tell me they LOVE my one blue eye! I am house trained now too. It only took me a few tries to learn the doggy door. My foster mama thinks I might have been an outside dog 100% of the time. I still like to lay in the sun for a few minutes at a time, but I REALLY like being inside and around people! People are awesome and they love on me and I like that a lot! I will snuggle and lean into my foster people for more attention. ... (Read More)I'm not fond of a crate, but I will follow a 'treat' inside and then settle down in one after just a few minutes. My foster mama thinks I can be trusted in the house even when she is not there, as long as she doesn't leave any food on the counters. I am a counter surfer! There's a furry thing here called a cat and sometimes she leans into me and purrs. I'm really curious about her and I will follow her but I don't chase her. Sometimes she hisses at me because I'm too curious, but I don't think she is something I can eat. I just like to stand over her and stare. When I'm feeling better after my neuter, I like to play with with my fur foster brother, Grover. He wants to play a lot more than I do, but when I don't want to play, I just walk away from him. I know I will want to play more when I'm feeling better. I like him and I look to him for some guidance sometimes. Grover plays with something called ''toys'' and tries to get me to play, but I'm not really sure what they are. I also like skin kids and I am not jumpy with them. I just want them to love on me too. I'm actually an all around very easy going guy! I love to go for walks and get very happy when I see the leash! I am told I am a good walker and only pull a tiny bit. Maybe a little more when I see a rabbit! I would love to meet you now and give you some kisses. Then on July 15th I have to go in and have my icky Heartworm treatment and I will have to be calm and can't play for a few weeks. I want to be healthy for my new furever home. My foster mama will keep you updated. Please ask for a meet and greet soon because I can't wait to meet you!!!' See my bio here: http://savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2705 (Less)

Animal ID: 14333Tucker (male)

Boxer    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tucker is an energetic 4 year old boy that is full of kidney bean dances and wiggles! He currently lives with 2 skin sisters (7 years old and 2 years old) and he just loves them to pieces. Tucker can be a little jumpy during introductions, but he calms down pretty quickly with some correction. He is currently the only dog in the foster home, but so far he has gotten along great with other dogs. His fur cousin is a Great Dane and he just loves to play and bounce around with him. Tucker has not had any accidents in the house or crate. He gets in his crate fairly well (with some treat bribes), and once he is in there he does not whine. ... (Read More)Tucker does need some basic leash training because right now he likes to pull and lead, but he is easily corrected when reminded that he needs to mind his manners. He is easily excited and doesn't act like a 4 year old at all'|he has the spirit of a 2 year old. He loves to be around his people! He loves cuddles and snuggles, and he likes to give gentle (not slobbery!) kisses when asked. He has shown no aggression with food or toys, and no aggression towards other animals (although he likes to chase squirrels in the backyard'|but who doesn't?). He also knows some basic commands like sit, lay down, and shake. We think that Tucker would do great as an only dog, or with other dogs. We aren't sure how he is around cats, but I don't think he would mind much. See my complete bio at http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2701 (Less)

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Hi! My name is Dayzie. I am a 4 year old flashy fawn female/spayed. I am excellent with friends and family and love my 10 year old skin brother. My foster mom heard I do way better with male dogs than female dogs. Also, I HATE cats. Right now I am an 'only child' and that works just fine with me! I will cower down with strangers and 'submissive pee' but that's just because I'm scared. Once we have been introduced, I do just fine! I am house trained, crate trained and I LOVE baths. My previous owner used to have a walk in shower and I would go in and just wait for her. I have excellent grooming habits! I love to be clean. I am also good about ... (Read More)having my nails clipped and ears cleaned - a girl has got to do what a girl has to do to stay fabulous! I love having my belly rubbed too! Mmmmm'| that feels so good! I really enjoy walking and even running on the leash. I can pull, but it's nothing too overwhelming that an adult human couldn't handle. I am not possessive with toys. I have high energy and I am super playful. I love to go outside and I prefer my foster mom and skin brother go with me. My foster brother says I look like I am running the Kentucky Derby when I let loose. I am really awesome with locating birds and squirrels. I have a toy that I really like. It's a figure 8 rope. I will growl when we are playing tug of war, but it's just for fun. I love, love, love to give hugs and lick the humans! I went to class at PetsMart and I know some really awesome tricks! I know sit, down (lie down), shake and the best one ~ a high five. We are working on speaking and 'bed' (going to my very own bed). I am disciplined with verbal correction. If I start exploring the toilet or the trash can, my foster mom tells me no and I instantly move on. I am certainly not possessive over food or treats with humans. I cannot tell you how I would act if another dog took my food or treats from me because as I stated earlier, I am an 'only child'. I love going to the vet and car rides. Thankfully, I have never had any illnesses or injuries, but I do suffer from seasonal alopecia. My current routine is while my foster mom goes to work and the 10 year old attends summer camp, I hang out in my crate. I am allowed to roam the house at night. I have never had any accidents. I am usually found in the morning with my skin brother in his bed. I am such a fabulous, happy, well behaved and joyful girl! Any family would be blessed to have me as a forever addition.     I am new to my family. They have only had me a few days so far but this is what they know. I am a medium sized boxer. I weigh about 55 lbs. I am very sweet and gentle and will even give a kiss or two. I am a love bug that wiggles for everyone. I love my skin siblings and wiggle when I see them. I haven't jumped at all so my people don't think that will be a problem. I love to lean into people for a good scratch. I am also deaf so I am beginning to learn some signs. I have met my 2 fur siblings but so far just through a crate since I need my rest. I was so happy to see them and wanted am eager to play with them. My mom thinks ... I need to get a few things taken care of medically so please check back in. My mom thinks I will be ready towards the beginning of August.     Hello, my name is Zoro, I am a 2-3 male boxer that loves to be on your lap and give boxer kisses. I am getting along well with my little boxer sister. She wants to play all the time and I do too. Running and chasing her is my favorite. I also like the Kong and rope toys that my fur sister and I play tug-o-war with. I go in the crate when asked and rest nicely. Mommy said that I am the BEST dog on a leash. I walk right by her side without pulling. I go to the potty outside and have only had a couple of 'oops' in the house. I let my Mommy know when there are noises that she should be alarmed about. My mommy does not have any skin kids that ... (Read More)live here so she does not know how I would be with little kids.     Radar's not available yet, but that's only because he has a varied and mysterious past and something called heartworm treatment to finish--if it were up to him, he'd love to Tigg'r-spring into your heart right now...but you gotta love kisses! He's a compact, muscular, 55#, handsome lil lovebug who loves people and dogs--not sure about cats--but he's got so much jumpy energy he's probably better off with children big enough to avoid being bowled over. Radar is crate-trained, and needs a fur buddy around so he feels safe and can play, play, play. He has a few basic commands so far, and he knows them very well, even sits without a command for ... Animal ID: 14301Kenzy (female)

Boxer    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Hello everyone! I'd like to introduce you to Kenzy. Kenzy is a sweet, young boxer that is getting used to the good life! When Kenzy came into LBR's care, she was in pretty bad shape. She had had complications after giving birth to a litter of puppies and needed immediate surgery to fix the problem and prevent her from having further litters. Kenzy had never been inside a house before coming to us. She had lived outside all her life. Watching her adjust to being inside has been such a joy. She is so curious about every little thing, because it is all so new to her. Because she had never been inside, she had no idea of what it meant to be ... (Read More)housebroken. We're working on this and Kenzy is doing better all the time. She does still have the occasional accident but she's learning. Kenzy does pretty well in her crate, although it is far from her most favorite place to be! She does tend to bark for a bit when first put in and left alone, so an apartment would probably not be a good thing for her. Kenzy is young and just loves to play and run. She will run and fetch a ball and loves to romp and roll around in the kiddie pool. She also loves to play with her foster brother. Since all of this is new to her, she's still learning play manners and will need a playmate with patience and energy! Kenzy just loves people and is so happy to finally have their attention. She sometimes gets a little too excited and will paw at you for rubs and attention, but we're working on teaching her to only give her paw when it is asked for. She is also learning other commands, such as off, leave it, and how to lay down. Kenzy is very smart and a very quick learner. I think Kenzy would do well in a home with another young dog to play with, since she has so much energy to burn. I also think she would do well with children. Since she is still learning appropriate behavior, it might be best if the children were over 10, so she couldn't knock them over. Kenzy does have heartworms and will need to have treatment to get rid of them before being adopted. If all goes according to plans she should be ready around the beginning of September.     Hello. I am Hampton. According to the dictionary, 'Hampton' means 'home settlement.' I think that's interesting, since I am looking for a home to settle in. I am about 6 years old. I am house trained. I love kids! I am trustworthy in the house all by myself. ( I really don't care much for the crate, so I behave.) I don't even get on your furniture. I'm just an all around great guy. My foster mom says I am a love-bug and an all around sweet guy. **blush**. She is deserving of such respect and treatment. I would love a chance to meet a new family that could love me for life. You should know that in my pre-Legacy days, I did not ... (Read More)receive the care and treatment I needed, so I have to go through heartworm treatment. Since I arrived into Legacy's care, I have also had a number of bumps removed, and that's not uncommon for many boxers. However, I do understand that there is always a risk they will return. Legacy will provide all the information that they have on my medical care, history and treatment. I understand that Legacy has given me the very special title of 'Silver Boxer' which I display proudly on my bio page. Here is the link for the benefits that come with that designation. http://www.savetheboxers.com/silver.phpI should be ready to meet potential families sometime in late July. Please let my mom know if you would like to meet me. I would love to be picked by a family, especially if you have kids.     Hey there, how's it going? It's good to meet you, I'm Monroe and I'd like to just get the obvious out of the way'| Seven schmeven-that's right I'm not a puppy. That really just means I won't chew your stuff to shreds, I won't tear through your house like a wild man, I won't test your ESP trying to guess what I'll do next and I won't drag you down the sidewalk when we go for walks. I am a quiet, settled guy. I do very well in my foster mom's apartment; I only bark when someone knocks on the door. I sound really mean when that happens but as soon as our guest comes inside, I'm automatically Mr. Congeniality. I love my people and I love ... (Read More)getting attention but I am not needy. I know how to sit and will lay down for a treat. Thrown one into my crate and I'll go right in and I won't complain about it. By the way, I love treats and can catch them when you pitch them up in the air, that's fun! And I do like to play, especially when I come in from walking the block'|I get down into a play bow and let my foster mom know I'm ready for a little wrestling. But then I'm ready to relax, snuggle or just take a nap. I'm also used to staying off my foster mom's furniture but if you want me to climb up & snuggle, I would love that. When I'm out on my leash, I am very well behaved; no pulling, no lunging at squirrels (even though I'd love to give them a chase) or unnecessary barking. My foster mom even jogged a little with me and I stayed right by her, not trying to race or stay behind. If you need a jogging partner, we could be running buddies! If you're interested in finding out more or setting up a meeting, please don't hesitate to contact Legacy today! I will be ready to win you over with my pretty eyes, my calm demeanor and my handsome face. We will become fast friends, I promise.     Hi I'm Colt. I'm a 3 year old flashy dark brindle boxer boy and weigh about 86 lbs. but I'm dieting a little in order to drop a few pounds. I know my sit and down commands but need work on stay and how not to pull during my walks. I am fully house and crate trained and do like meeting new people. I am very loving and like to cuddle on the couch or floor with my foster family. I get to stay in my crate during the day while the family is out at work but I get to roam my part of the house during the evening. I am gradually meeting my foster fur siblings. I get very excited and exuberant when meeting new dogs and I can initially irritate them ... (Read More)with my energetic antics. I really just want to play but due to my size and maybe the fact that I get so excited some of them get agitated. My foster family is helping me remain calm with sitting techniques. I am allowed to mingle with an 11 year old female boxer and we get along fine. I also have spent some time with a couple of cute Pomeranians with no problems. My foster family says I need to be introduced to other dogs slowly. I have some hair loss but it is starting to grow back with the aid of melatonin and some horse hair growth liniment that was suggested by my LBR family. No one knows why my hair was falling out since my vet says I test negative for any problems, including being heartworm negative. I've had a very good stay with my foster families but now I'm ready to find my forever family. I'm a healthy, heartworm negative, energetic fellow that is looking for someone to love and further train me. If you're that special family give me a call and I'll come for a visit.     My name is Tonto. I am a reserved guy, much like the Lone Ranger's sidekick. I am really quiet and easy-going. I found myself in the shelter, although I have no idea why. I think my family could not afford the medical care I needed. When Legacy Boxer Rescue found me, they found me a place to live. I am enjoying the orthopedic beds and the regular meals/snacks. My mom gave me medicine that she says if for hookworms, and they will be all gone soon. Then, I am told I will have my ''bum'' leg removed. It causes me great pain, as there is something unfixable about my hip. So, I think when it is gone, I will be much more mobile than I ... (Read More)am now. After that, it looks like I'll have treatment for heartworms. And then finally, I'll be ready to meet new families. My foster mom says that I am the easiest dog she has ever had stay at her house. I am a perfect gentleman. I know how to be crated, but do not have to be, as I don't get into anything I'm not supposed to. My foster brother is not that good. He counter surfs?! So, my foster mom makes sure to try an put things up. I told him he shouldn't do that, but he didn't listen. I know better. :) I'm not a barker. What's the point? You know if someone is at your front door. :) I LOVED my foster mom's grandchildren, and did great with them. What else is there to say? Do you need a charming, stately side kick? If so, I should be ready to meet folks around the end of June. See ya Kemosabee. ' See my bio here: http://savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2645 (Less)

Hello All, My name is Jennifer; my Foster Dad calls me Jenna Wenna or Jenny for short. My Foster Dad tells me that I am a gorgeous flashy fawn Boxer Lady with a beautiful brown coat and gorgeous brown eyes. He tells me I weigh approximately 53 lbs and that I will end up around 60 lbs when I put on some more muscle and some much needed weight. I am a very sweet Boxer lady, well that is what my Foster Daddy tells me. ;-) My Foster Dad tells me I am very loving and that I enjoy giving what he calls endless kisses. So I might go a little over board on the kissing, what do you want? I do stop when asked nicely or when he tells me no ... (Read More)ma'am. %81S Did he tell you that I love to kiss? He says I Kidney bean like crazy when I am excited and when you come home. I love, love, love to play with toys and I like to carry them all over the house. I play with one toy, then another, and another. He calls me a serial toy player. I have some physical challenges that were caused by what we suspect was a car accident. However, my foster Dad says there is no way to know that for sure since no one saw my accident happen. You see, I had x-rays, whatever those things are and they showed I had 3 breaks in my hip area. I have somewhat limited use of my back right leg. I am getting stronger every day and have regained about 60% of the muscle mass in my back right leg. I am pretty sure that is due to love, good food, rest, and a ton of play with The Boxer Gang. My Foster Brothers Sky and John love to play with me. Of course I don't let my hip challenge slow me down. I love to play with my foster brothers and sister and chase them all over the house and yard pretty much every chance I get. I love people and I love snuggling with my Boxer foster brothers and sister. I love to sleep next to my people in bed and I settle down quickly and don't move until my people get up in the morning. I may give a few kisses before I settle down to sleep, what, I like kisses. ;-) I have to go through heart worm treatment for worms, ick what are worms? I don't know what those are but they just don't sound good to me. I will be available for adoption around May 18th. My Foster Dad tells me I mind very well and listen very well if he asks me to stop doing something. I know sit and I am learning some other commands. I am house trained and I will let you know that I need to go out by ringing the poochie bells or hitting my paw against the back door. If that doesn't work, I will sometimes go look for you. Also, I am crate trained and I settle down very quickly after I go into the crate. I am usually sitting nicely when my foster Dad comes home to let me out. That is all for now, I hope to meet you soon. Love Jennifer and The Boxer Gang See my bio here: http://savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2629 (Less)

Hi everyone! Meet Legacy foster Ms. Mulligan! When Mulligan first arrived into foster care it was evident she hadn't lived a very good life. She was under weight, scared and had no 'Boxer spirit'. It took a few weeks, but after some regular meals and lots of loving Ms. Mulligan is discovering what the good life is about! This little girl is a prime example of why Legacy does what it does! As Ms. Mulligan continues to come out of her shell her Boxer spirit has begun to return! In fact, we are learning that she's a whole lot of sweet and a whole lot of sassy! In fact, she has earned the nickname 'Ms. Sassy Pants'! Ms. Mulligan loves her daily ... (Read More)walks and does great on a leash! While she's cruising the neighborhood she likes everyone to know she's out and about! Who knew such a loud bark could come from such a little thing! She's also the sweetest little girl that loves nothing more than to be curled up in your lap or next to you on the couch. Each time you walk into the room she'll greet you with the fastest moving Boxer nub you have ever seen! In fact she gets so excited the back half of her body just wiggles and wiggles! Have you even seen what's often referred to as the Boxer Kidney Bean? Well, you haven't seen a kidney bean until you see Ms. Sassy Pants do it! Mulligan is cat friendly and kid friendly but is somewhat selective about her dog friends. Because of this she would prefer to be an only dog. She's crate trained and almost house trained. We're still having a few accidents in the house but that's ok because she's still learning! Ms. Mulligan is looking for her fur-ever home. Her fur-ever family needs to know she's had a bit of a rough life and will need a little love and patience. The positive side to this is she is the sweetest little girl and has a lot of love to give in return! Could this be the girl for you? How can you resist that face? For a puppy, she is pretty calm, except when she plays with her fur siblings. She is almost totally house trained, and mostly good in a crate. She walks well on a leash, and loves to go places. She has never been around cats or small dogs, but she plays well with my puppy at home Pearl loves to snuggle with her fur and skin family. Let's you know when she is hungry or has to go potty. She is so wiggly when her skin family comes home for work or to visit ... (Read More)The worst thing about Pearl......she loves to run in the mud. Pearl is deaf, and with our trainers help, she now knows several hand signals. It is a ongoing process, but not difficult at all. She is a fast learner. Please don't let that scare you off Pearl will bring a lot of love and joy into your heart and home. I would love to show her off to you See my bio here: http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2584 (Less)

Hey Y'all I'm Ben, I'm looking for a someone to be my forever family. I'm a really good boy. I know how to sit when asked. I go in my crate when asked and sometimes on my own just to nap. I love to go on walks and I might just like to be your running buddy. I also love to ride in the truck and I know to sit in my seat and be still while we're driving. But most of all I love people. I go to work with my foster Dad and the neighbors watch for me so they can come out and see me. I love to give them hugs and they love me too. My foster Dad says the best thing I've learned is to not bolt out the front door when it's opened. I know when he says ... You see, I know I'm a good boy because everybody tells me so all of the time. So if you're looking for a people dog I'm your guy. I'm just looking for someone to love forever, could it be you? If you want to meet me just let your adoption counselor know and I'll be right over with hugs and kisses for you.     BINGO! That's me! B-I-N-G-O! I am an energetic 8 year old boxer boy who loves to run and jump and play and bark and give kisses and wag my nubby. I've been in my foster home since December and I am ready to find my forever home. Don't get me wrong. I love it here! I have a nice bed to sleep on and lots of toys to play with and even a foster brother to wrestle. I am crate trained and potty trained.     I'm not 'all boxer, this is true. I'm not 'all boxer, But neither are you. I don't hold that against. I never would. I just mind my manners. I'm always good. And if I'm not a good little doggie, It's not because I'm trying to be naughty. I love to have fun. I run, jump and play. I love getting cookies, for a sit, shake or stay. I'm great in my crate, I don't make a peep. Unlike some 'all boxers, I don't snore in my sleep. I'll make you laugh, I'll make you smile. If I'm around you at all, even a little while. I'm not 'all boxer, this is true. I'm not 'all boxer, I'm Molly Margot Magoo!!!! Molly Margot was born on February 8, 2010 to a ... (Read More)beautiful brindle boxer that LBR rescued from a local shelter. That beautiful, very pregnant, brindle boxer was named Milky Way and was adopted by one of our volunteers. Molly Margot was originally adopted out as a puppy. Unfortunately her family had to return her due to some unfortunate life circumstances. Definitely through no fault of her own. She's been hanging her leash here as our foster and playing a LOT with our boxer, Ivan. Molly is house trained and crate trained. She knows how to sit and shake and she is pretty good with a stay. She loves to go for rides in the car and is very good while on those rides. She sits in the back seat and just looks out the window. She also loves to go for walks and she would make a wonderful running buddy. She loves to run. And her longer snout is also a plus for nice long runs. She loves to play with our Ivan and she loves to play by herself. She enjoys squeaky toys and she will have some very entertaining conversations with them. She will squeak squeak and then talk talk and then squeak and then talk talk. She also loves to play fetch with a ball. Molly is good with children of all ages. Molly LOVES to snuggle with her people and she is pretty darn good at it. See my bio here: http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2537 (Less)

Handsome Buckley! That's what I hear when I'm out on the town. What can I say? It must be true. Did you see my pics? I'm quite a catch. I'm a fairly calm, laid back boy. I love to play catch, fetch and tug. I play well with the other dogs in my foster home but I would be fine as your one and only if that's what you're looking for. If there is another dog at your house then you might be careful with high value treats. I don't really want to share those. Foster mom just gives us all one bite treats though and that works great!     Holmes here and I'm on the case...the case of finding my furever home! I am a sweet, stately gentleman between the ages of 7-8. I am a big boy, weighing in around 76 lbs. I am house and crate trained, though I do whine a little when in the crate at first. My favorite activities are eating (obviously), sleeping, playing with balls and just being around you. I know LOTS of tricks and will do them if you give me treats. I am such a character too; I love to play dead when my foster mom tries to get me to do something I don't want to. I love to cuddle and have my head and belly scratched. I move a little slower than your average boxer, ... (Read More)and I am a little selective about my dog friends. I get along with my foster family's younger, male boxer, but he's pretty active and I can get grumpy when he won't get out of my face.     Hello my name is Jax. I'm a 4 year old white male that weighs in at 69 lbs. I am not deaf and can hear everything I choose to acknowledge. I do know a couple of commands but need further training to help me broaden my horizons. I am crate and house trained but I usually roam around the house with my two boxer foster sisters. I sleep on a dog bed in the bedroom at night. I'm good with the female dogs but I tend to show the other male dogs that I'm bigger than they are and my foster family currently keeps me separated from them. I get to eat alongside the girls when I'm eating and I really don't mind if they play with my toys, even when I'm ... (Read More)playing with them. I'm a little leery of meeting new people and will bark at them when they first come in the room but I'm very friendly and loving once I've gotten to know them. I'm never aggressive with people just fearful at first. Once I know you I'm a big, lovable boxer boy that likes to lay my head in your lap and get his ears rubbed. I had a problem with my skin and had a little hair loss that may or may not grow back but I'm ok now. If you think you might be the perfect match for me give me a call and we'll get together. Animal ID: 13649Mattie (female)

Boxer    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Mattie was very severely abused in her life before coming to LBR. She was apparently used as a bait dog to help train Pit Bulls to fight before her LBR save. She has been with us for 8 months now and has come a long ways however I am not sure that she will ever put her past life totally behind her. According to the veterinarian she is between 3 and 4 years old. When we first picked her up she tested positive for heart worms. She had over 250 to 300 open puncture wounds on her and had 5 open tears in her skin which were severely infected and were old enough wounds that the vet said they could not be sewn up and would have to heal on ... (Read More)their own. Many of them were inflamed and oozing. The vet cleaned them up and treated them. They did heal but they left some pretty large scars. She has been with us for 8 months now and still has over 100 visible scars on her front legs, shoulders and head. The cartilage and joint in the elbow on her left front leg was pretty severely damaged by dogs chewing on it when she was used for a bait dog. She has arthritis in that elbow and the Veterinarian recommends that she be on a lifelong daily regimen of Fish Oil and Glucosamine & Chondroitin. He says that should help somewhat, however he says the damage is severe enough that it will cause her bigger problems as she becomes older. It doesn't currently appear to bother her when she is walking around, however when she first wakes in the morning or from a long nap she tends to limp for a few minutes on that leg. According to the vet walks would not be bad for Mattie at this point, however long runs should be avoided due to the joint damage in that elbow. One of her canines was broken off about 1/8 inch from the gums and the other three had been filed smooth at the gum line. By mid-January the three canines which were filed off had become infected and she had to go in and have them extracted. Due to the infection in the lower left canine the tooth in front of it had to be extracted as well. The lower right canine is the one which is broken off. It was not infected so the decision was made not to remove it at this time however the vet said we needed to watch it closely because there is a very strong probability that it will eventually have to be removed. Mattie randomly has Idiopathic Head Tremors. The Vet has no explanation however he thinks there may be some neurological problem which could possibly have been caused by the puncture wounds and dog fights she endured. Sometimes a week will go by without any issues and other times she will have two or three episodes a day. We are pretty sure that she was some ones pet which was either lost or stolen because she wouldn't get on any furniture and was pretty much house trained when we got her. After about 2 months she started getting on the sofa in our den but I don't think she would do it even now if it weren't for Dexter and Gus getting up there. She is house trained and will go to the door when she needs to go out but she doesn't make any noise at the door. Even now the problem is she doesn't go to the door until she really has to go and if you aren't constantly watching and you don't let her out immediately she will go right by the door. Mattie will not go out into the yard to pee or poo or the ground is wet. Doesn't matter if it is raining or if the lawn is just wet from the sprinklers or even a heavy frost, she will go to the bathroom on the deck under the patio cover. You have to watch when she goes out because she loves to dig in the yard. She hates cats and immediately goes on the attack if a cat is present. It only took her a couple of weeks to realize that our two boxer boys had no intention of hurting her and the three of them decided it was OK to peacefully coexist. It was almost four months before she started playing with them and it took her 5 months before she picked up her first toy. After almost 5 months she has finally become best buds with Gus and Dexter. I have taken her to pet fair several times however she is not comfortable in the Pet Fair environment. She growls and doesn't want any of the other dogs getting too near to her. She is afraid of the dogs as well as new people. She is much more accepting of meeting new people but she initially trembles and leans up to me or hides behind me for about the first 15 or 20 minutes when someone new comes up. She is easily startled by loud noises. She will run and hide behind furniture or in her crate if you yell at her or there are sudden loud noises. She walks very well on a leash but if someone walks toward us she will cower next to or behind me or will run away from them until she hits the end of the leash. She is becoming more trusting but is a long and slow process. See my complete bio at http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2484 (Less)

Hello Everyone! My name is Jones. If you are looking for a young, potty trained, house trained, smart, and lovable boxer, I'm your girl. I have the best wiggle butt ever; my whole body wiggles when I get excited. I love to run around the back yard with my fur sister, and play tug of war with her; she and I get along great. I don't mind my crate, and I do very well in it, but sometimes, I like to be a stinker and escape from it. But my foster mom has made it so I can't get out, and now I don't really even try to. I am on the small side for a boxer, weighing in at only 45 pounds of pure love. I do like to bark a lot when I don't get enough ... (Read More)attention, and my foster mom is working on that with me. She said that I have gotten much better over the last few weeks. I like to go for walks with my foster mom, but she says I pull on the leash, so she got me this no pull harness thingy, and it seems to be working. I also like to jump a lot, so my foster mom thinks I would do better in a home with kids over 10, I don't mean to knock them down, but somehow I always do, what can I say, I just want to play. I have Heartworms, so I will need to go through Heart Worm Treatment, and then I have 30 days of pure rest and relaxation. Once that is complete, I will be ready for my forever home, probably around the first part of December 2013. Thanks for visiting my page!     Well, I think it's safe to say that we can go ahead and post the 'after' picture of miss Dolce. This little girl is SO different than the skinny, near-dead thing was brought home in August. What was a weak, scared, lost soul has turned into one sweet, active, joyful pup! Dolce is still looking for her forever home, so here's the lowdown on this precious baby girl: Dolce is house trained, knows how to sit, shake and get into her crate when you say 'house.' She is big dog friendly and small dog friendly, cat friendly and kid friendly. And she is a ball of energy! She would ideally do best with someone who either has playmates for her or ... (Read More)enjoys walks and the dog park. She would also benefit from some formal training - we've made great progress and she needs someone to maintain that structure in her life. Sometimes she gets a little vocal when she's excited, so she would probably fare better in a house versus an apartment (at least for the neighbors' sake!) Dolce has finished all of her vetting and is ready to get out and find her fur-ever family. Please contact Legacy TODAY if you are interested in Dolce!     Do you know the story of the Ugly Duckling? Gizmo is Legacy's version of the Ugly Duckling. When he came into our care, Gizmo had no hair and was covered in crusty scabs. He had both Sarcoptic and Demodectic Mange. He had been living in horrible conditions since his birth. Gizmo had two sisters when he came into Legacy's care. They were diagnosed with Parvo and despite our efforts, neither survived. No one knows why or how Gizmo never came down with the virus that killed his sisters, but he didn't. We knew that this naked and scabby pup was special right from the beginning. Look at him now! He is no longer the ugly duckling. Now he is the ... (Read More)beautiful swan, both inside and out. It took almost a year for Gizmo's fur to grow back and for the treatments to rid him of the mange mites. In that year, Gizmo has come a very long way. He is such a sweet and happy boy. He loves to run and play with both people and with other dogs. He loves to play with toys, and really loves to run around the yard, carrying his toy in his mouth. Don't let his size fool you; though he looks like an adult dog, he is still very much a puppy. Gizmo is house broken and he is also crate trained. At our house he is only crated at night and when he needs to be left alone. He also knows sit, and will go lay on his bed when told to do so. He really isn't a jumper, but gets bouncy when he first meets someone or when he gets excited. Gizmo is very smart and will learn what he is being taught quickly. Gizmo loves other dogs and loves to play with them. He is still a puppy and he plays hard. So a playmate would need to be able to handle lots of play time. He also is still learning proper play etiquette since he tends to play quite rough and is very vocal when playing. Gizmo's ideal home would have at least one other dog for him to play with. Since he is young and playful, he would do great with children as well. Gizmo does bark when he hears strange noises and when he needs to potty, so an apartment would probably not be good for him. Although he has never met a cat up close and personal, he has seen strays in our neighborhood and tries to chase them. While I don't think he would intentionally hurt them, I think it would be best if he was in a home without cats. Gizmo loves to snuggle especially at night. He will curl up next to you on the couch, or if given the chance he will sleep right beside you in bed. Gizmo is a sweet and goofy boy, who will make you laugh out loud more times than you could ever imagine. Come meet him and see for yourself!     Hi. I'm Tara. Thanks for reading about me. I may be a little older then some of the other kids at LBR that you may read about, but I still have so much energy and love to give. I have learned that squirrels can run really fast when I chase them, and birds are pretty fast too! I am around 7 years old and have a little grey in my face, but don't let that fool you. I like to play with some toys and I love to chew! I will spend hours sitting next to you and contently chew on my bone. I like other dogs but I am self assured and will stand up for myself if I need to. I don't have the energy of some of those youngsters, so I don't think I ... I really want to be with you, to be rubbed, and be part of your family. I'm also very gentle with kids. I finally finished my treatment for something my foster mom called heartworms. But now I feel great and I'm ready to find my new home. If you have some room in your heart and home for an older, sweet, gentle girl with a bunch of love left to give, please ask to meet me!     Sir Washington is a very distinguished gentleman. He is rather large in size, has the cutest crooked tooth that always sticks out and is a very good and sweet boy. He likes to be outside and bask in the sun and spend time sniffing out what life has to offer. He is a gentle giant - he is not jumpy, but he can get excited and lick you like crazy! He is still playful but overall he is very calm and just likes to enjoy a good dog bed now and then.     Hey there! My name is Cleverley! I am the wiggliest little girl you will ever meet! I have been with my foster family since June, and boy, am I having fun. There are two big boxer boys and a smaller boxer girl here that I love to play with and the dog beds are great too! While I love my friends here, I do need time to get to know new doggy friends when I first meet them. My foster parents have introduced me to everybody with a crate introduction, and after not too long, I am good to go! I weigh in at 56 pounds. I am amazing in my crate, I go right in with no protests and just curl up for a nap. I am great in the car and walk well on a ... (Read More)leash. My favorite thing is to give kisses. I also love to be petted and curling up next to my foster mom on the couch. I had to get healthy the first couple of months I was with my foster family; I had to get spayed, have a couple of lumps removed, and have heart worm treatment. All that is behind me now and I am as good as new! I am also so ready for what my foster mom calls my 'furever' home. She told me about it, and it sounds amazing! I can't wait to have a family to call my own and be loved forever. If I sound like your kind of girl, let my foster mom know, I hope to meet you soon!     '4-1-2014 Well HI everyone!!!! I'm Darbi!! My foster mom said it's time to tell you all about me! As you can see, I'm a very cute white boxer girl with an adorable brown patch on my left eye (if I do say so myself!). My foster mom also discovered that I am deaf and I am SO HAPPY that she did!!! She is teaching me signs and I am learning FAST--it is so amazing to be able to ''talk'' to my human and understand what is expected of me!! Let's see.....I know the signs for ''crate,'' ''wait,'' ''come here,'' ''no,'' ''look at me,'' ''go to sleep,'' ''eat,'' ''go potty,'' and ''sit.'' It took a little while for me to realize that my foster mom was ... (Read More)talking to me. You see, my foster mom is pretty sure that my previous owners didn't realize I was deaf and maybe thought I was just being stubborn, so it's possible they weren't very nice to me because they didn't realize I couldn't hear them. BUT, that's all behind me now and life is going to be awesome from now on! I'm a very good girl in my crate--I go right in and just sleep the day away until you come home (I eat in there too!). I am housetrained and have had no accidents in the house. My foster mom is working on teaching me to ring the bells on the door to let her know when I need to go out--it's a work in progress, but for now I know that I can also just walk around and stare at her and she gets the idea. It's good that I have my foster mom trained! I'm not much of a barker, but I do like to look out the window and if I see any suspicious activity in the neighborhood, I will let you know! I'm good with walking on my leash also, but I really prefer to use my harness because it is more comfy! I am very good with meeting new people--I jump up a little bit, but once they give me the sign for ''no'' I remember my manners. Because I am deaf, my foster mom says no kids under 10, just so I am not startled by little feet and hands possibly running up to me when I am asleep or surprising me when my back is turned. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to meet new people and I so hope that you want to meet me!! Contact the great people at Legacy Boxer Rescue to set up a meeting with me!!     Hey everybody....My name is Simba. My foster mom and dad called me Simba because when I came to their house I was very skinny, scared and needed a lot of help. Great news!!! I am ready for my forever home. After being with my foster mom and dad I am ready to find a new home. They say I am an amazing dog (and to be honest I am) because I am good with dogs, kids, adults and play gently with them all. They are super impressed that I walk well, go to my bed (crate) extremely well, I am house trained and I give the most gentle baby kisses in the world. I love to be near you but don't need to be on you all the time. I have had a rough life before ... (Read More)my foster family got me. I had these nasty things called worms and I had to have hip surgery. To top it all of they 'fixed' me too. I was super skinny because I lived in a bad place before LBR but all of that is behind me. I am the sweetest dog ever and I would love to meet you. If you are looking for a fur friend that is easy going and a great companion....I may be your guy. If you think you would like to meet me just talk to your adoption counselor. Have your people call my people and we just might be a match. I meet everyone at the door with my ears perked up and my whole body wiggling with excitement, I love to have people come over for a visit! Like any respectable lady I've got excellent manners and perfect people skills, what more could you ask for? I love children and really enjoy following them around and watching them as they play, just like a good mama should. I'd love to find a forever home with some kids just for me! I'm friends with the other dogs in my foster home, but I'm perfectly happy to be the princess and the center of attention. I prefer the couch or bed as opposed to my crate, but I promise to be a good girl and leave things just as you left them. Any good hostess meets her guests at the door with a smile and a hug, that yucky crate just cramps my style so please just leave me out to rule my roost while you're away! If you'd like to add some light to your life, let the nice people at Legacy know that Zia is the girl for you. I promise to meet you every day with a hug, smile, and my extra-special wiggle! I've spent 11 years sharing my attention, I don't think some special snuggle time is too much to ask for! Children are cute and all, but since I'm getting on in years I'd probably to better with older kids who will respect my space and leave me alone to enjoy my naps and quiet time. One of the many great things about adopting an older gentleman like myself is that I'm already house trained, crate trained, and know all the basic commands. What's not to love? I love having people come over to visit, I've got a great wiggle and a million dollar smile. Won't you come over and meet me? We can go for a nice walk and afterwards I'll tell you one of my special stories! I've got all kinds of time to kill and there's nothing else I'd rather do than spend it with you.     Howdy y'all, Carney here! If you're trying to figure out where my name came from, I was named after the song 'Carney Man' by Cross Canadian Ragweed. Foster mom really loves that band and says the black under my left eye reminds her of clown make up. I've been at my foster mom's house for a few weeks and so far I love it here! I've got a fur sister named Ellie and her and I love to play together. She even uses me as a pillow sometimes and I don't mind at all. I share just about everything with her and am happy to do so. I am a little stingy with my food but I didn't always have food to call my own so I want it all to myself. Can you blame ... (Read More)me? I haven't always had nice people around me so it takes me a while to warm up to strangers. I try to scare them by barking but really I'm the one that's scared. Foster mom is helping me learn that people are good just like her. I am a deaf dog, but I don't let that hinder me at all. I am very smart and have been learning hand signals from my foster mom. I've got sit down really good and am working on down, off, come, and potty. She's been trying to convince me to go into a crate but I think she is CRAZY for wanting me to go in there but I am a LOT better at it now. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it, but for now I'd rather be curled up next to foster mom or in a warm bed outside of the crate. Once I get settled in a little better I'll send out an update on me. Be sure to check back soon! To see his complete bio, visit http://www.savetheboxers.com/available2.php?dogID=2020 (Less)

'Update: Biff has been doing very well in his foster home. He came to LBR as a stray, very emaciated and overall in poor shape. It quickly become obvious that Biff had had no training and very little socialization before he came to LBR, but luckily he never lost his boxer spirit. With lots of patience, training and TLC Biff has come a long way. He is your typical happy boxer. He loves his people and wants nothing more than to be by your side and please you. He is now potty trained and crate trained and does great on a schedule. Biff's energy level is on the low side and doesn't require a lot of exercise; however, in typical boxer ...
